Overview

The Gwix are a race indigenous to the planet Merik Reuir. They are widely known for their short and stocky stature. Gwix have a facial structure similar to humans but are genetically incompatible. Their home world is an unforgiving, rocky, mineral rich planet that has been turned into nothing short of a giant mine by the entire Gwix race. Profit and greed are usually the major concern of Gwix society, and they are known galaxywide as shrewd traders and experienced business people. Altruism does not come naturally to the Gwix, and nothing motivates their decision making more than whether or not they will come out wealthier for their troubles.

Biology

Merik Reuir is a rocky planet with low oxygen content and high methane levels in the atmosphere. While the Gwix have evolved to easily thrive in these conditions, other alien species often require the use of respirators to traverse the planet's surface. Gwix respiratory systems are extremely hardy; they have a large lungs that enable them to breathe despite the low levels of oxygen on Merik Reuir. This has an added benefit in that they can typically smoke without much in the way of negative health effects. Gwix are favored by many corporations for this hardiness, as they can be deployed to voraciously mine on a wide variety of planets without being overly concerned about encountering pockets of gas or harsh conditions. Their strong livers allow them to process toxic chemicals at a much faster rate without serious detriment; of course, this means Gwix take longer to get drunk and are more resistant to alcohol, but equally things like heavy metal poisoning are a non-issue due to how easily they can filter their own blood.

Gwix are typically between 3 to 5 feet in height and are predisposed to a diminutive stature. Their skin tones are usually shades of green, blue-greens or dark browns. They can very in width but most Gwix are built to be bulky and stocky, making it easier to navigate Merik Reuir's rough terrain. They sport pointed ears and enhanced hearing, along with face paint or jewelry that carry some cultural significance. Gwix can live a very long time, up to at least two hundred years in prime conditions.

Galatic Opinion

As a result of their profit-focused, corporate-oriented society, Gwix are often stereotyped to be greedy traditionalists. This is not inherently wrong; the Onk Conglomerate always acts with profitability in mind, and the Gwix are not really altruists by nature. Their formative years as a species were characterized by a survival-of-the-fittest type scenarios and this remains ingrained in their society even now. Nevertheless, this is not true of every Gwix. Younger members of their race have grown discontent with the traditional ways forced on them by an aging workforce, and have begun to emigrate en masse.

During the Succession War, the Onk Conglomerate remained neutral. They did, however, trade with both the Coalition and the Federation, shipping ore, arms, and machinery to both sides in the conflict. Even now, the Onk Conglomerate maintains free trade with the rest of the galaxy as well as the human superpowers, opening them up to criticism of enabling the War and war profiteering in a way that was universally seen as morally bankrupt. The typical Gwix unfortunately has to bear this stigma of greedy selfishness, and it has contributed to the mass exodus of young Gwix from Onkian space.

Style Guide

Please see the Appearance Guide for non-race specific guidance and rules.

Gwix characters should primarily be short in stature with a height around 3 to 5 feet. Using bodies such as the ONA Kobold, or others that have clear adult features should be used to avoid a child-like appearance. Faces should be humanoid. Skin colors should be a shade of green, however greenish blue or browns are also acceptable. Pointed ears are also encouraged.
