Visra is the officially recognized home planet of the Lumii race. It is a harsh, unforgiving world buffeted by continuous blizzards. Visra is the capital of the smallest independent empire in galactic space, the Holy See of Visra, and is in close proximity to a nearby asteroid belt. As a result, almost every animal (including the Lumii) that lives on Visra is coated in thick, heavy fur.
The Lumii were discovered in the late iron age by humanity and were uplifted to be a spacefaring species; as such, they did not advance naturally, and this has left vast swathes of land on their home planet practically untouched and unexplored. The once nomadic Lumii tribes began to settle in valleys or near mountains to avoid the constant high winds and blinding snowstorms, evolving a sedentary lifestyle. As such, both the Lumii and a myriad of megacorporations believe that Visra is home to untold riches hidden beneath the dunes of white - but the Holy See is not interested in allowing aliens to help them look for it.
When the Coalition uplifted the Lumii, they began to strip mine the planet aggressively as a sort of repayment for their efforts. While at the time the primitive Lumii did not understand what was happening, centuries have passed and allowed the current administration to take a more educated look at their history, and opinion of the Coalition as a result has suffered. Now, the Lumii are very xenophobic and refuse to allow alien governments to interfere in their politics out of fear of inviting another group with untoward motives like the Coalition onto their soil. Slowly but surely, the Lumii have begun to delve into the deep ice caverns that stretch beneath Visra's surface to mine it themselves of the rare materials it has to offer.
Society
The Lumii are a heavily religious species; every facet of their lives is practically controlled by the church, and those who do not conform or commit acts that the Holy See views as sinful run the risk of punishment, whether that be something as simple as flogging or as extreme as banishment or execution. The church holds all of the power in Lumii society, and together with the nobility keep the peasantry in line. As such, cities on Visra are typically built around large churches or cathedrals. The largest of these cities is the capital, home to the Vault of the Twins, a sacred pilgrimage site and seat of the Archbishop. It is said that both Ymir and Sarai graced Visra with their presence at this location, and in reverence the Lumii built a massive, ornate cathedral and accompanying fortress. It is here that the Archbishop and both chambers of parliament meet; the House of Lords and the House of Commons draft laws and cooperate with the Holy See for the betterment of the Lumii species.
Every day, the Lumii are policed by the church's military arm. The Temple Knights keep the peace and handle disagreements while the Inquisitors investigate and punish those who break religious law. Lumii who run afoul of the church are usually banished from Visra and offloaded in neutral space to fend for themselves. This is universally seen as a cruel fate, given that most Lumii native to Visra know little about the extended galaxy at large and have had the Holy See's xenophobic tendencies ingrained into them since an early age. As far as the Holy See is concerned, however, this is a befitting fate for a sinner. The Holy See, and by extension the vast majority of the Lumii parliament revile alien interference in local politics and resist entering into trade agreements with other entities as much as possible. They do not allow non-Lumii to take up residence on Visra, except in extremely rare cases, such as the Rokhandans offering to send a research team for something.
