Overview

The Lumii are a race hailing from the icy world of Visra. They are known for their feline-like traits and thick, heavy coat of fur. The harsh snowy conditions of their homeworld is only matched by the iciness of Lumii personalities - as staunch traditionalists raised from a young age to hold xenophobic views, the Lumii are no strangers to adversity. Hardy and stoic, most habitable planets seem like vacation homes when compared to the cradle of their civilization. The Lumii are odd ones out on the galactic stage, having been discovered by accident by the Coalition. As a pre-spaceflight civilization, the Coalition had no choice but to uplift them as a result of galactic pressure.

Biology

As a result of the freezing temperatures of their homeworld, Lumii sport a thick, full body coat of fur which provides excellent protection from the elements. They are possessed of markedly feline traits, including rudimentary low-light vision and good hearing. Bipedal and mammalian in nature, they can come in a variety of natural fur colors ranging from black to brown to white. The downside of being insulated by many layers of fat and fur is that Lumii are incredibly prone to overheating in warmer climates, and have trouble adjusting to humid or hot environments. This usually doesn't present a problem as the population of Lumii outside of Visra is very low compared to most of the other prevalent species in the galaxy, but companies still typically need to provide special accommodations for their Lumii employees.

Lumii, similar to Rokhandans, sweat through their soles, palms, and ears, which typically isn't enough to cool them down. Some Lumii have taken to regular ice baths to beat the heat, while some ensure they get jobs where they work in freezers or refrigerators. Because of their natural insulation, Lumii make great workers for the food industry, capable of comfortably performing tasks in industrial freezers without needing jackets or coats or to step outside every so often to prevent frostbite.

Galactic Opinion

As newcomers to the galactic scene, most species are opinionated about the way the Galactic Coalition treated the Lumii, rather than about the Lumii themselves. It is no secret the Coalition aggressively strip mined as much of Visra as they could while they were uplifting the Lumii, and this is a source of significant consternation for the Lumii themselves and the galaxy at large. However, most alien species see their species as traditionalist, conservative, stoic and grumpy, and this typically holds true. Lumii are taught by the Holy See from a young age that aliens cannot be trusted, and a vast majority of them carry this view with them throughout their lives.

The Holy See is a source of constant headaches for other empires. Their intense xenophobia occludes all attempts at trade and negotiation, and only when the Lumii are backed into a corner economy-wise will they sometimes trade with their nearby neighbors. Otherwise, they are extremely difficult to deal with. Between viewing the behavior of other sentient species and sinful and the embitterment at the treatment they received at the hands of the Galactic Coalition, the Holy See is very paranoid about alien involvement in their politics to the detriment of diplomacy with other empires.

Style Guide

Please see the Appearance Guide for non-race specific guidance and rules.

The Lumii should be using a feline head such as the Paws Feline, or another style of head that fits a feline appearance (such as the SKNK Skunk head). They should sport cat ears along with a tail. Fur colors include natural cat fur tones such as brown, black, whites as well as hues of blues similar to that of the Russian blue. Also allowed are more exotic patterns such as leopard or cheetah patterns however these would be considered rare occurrences by Lumii standard. This also applies to unnatural colors such as reds, purples ect. that while not impossible they would be very rare, or they may be dyed to this color.
