The Coalition Outworld Legion is tasked with being the tip of the spear; the emergence of a Legion ship in a system heralds the increasing attention of both the Bastion and Geneva itself. The Legion acts as a blazing torch which will pave the way for further Coalition forces.
The Legion is taking in all who wish to fight for the cause of liberty and security. Anyone not domiciled within the Coalition's borders are eligible to join. Loyal citizens, defectors from the Federation, paragons of the community and hardened criminals will all find a home within the Legion. So long as they live up to its standards.
For those that do meet the exacting standards, a guarantee of protection, training, pay, a pardon, should they need it, and citizenship, should they want it. The Legion rewards the selfless service its volunteers provide in the name of the Coalition.
— Commodore Solomon T. Kore, Speech upon the formal invocation of the Varangian Proclamation

Overview
The Coalition’s Outworld Legion stands as a testament to the ever-evolving nature of interstellar conflict and cooperation. Born from ancient Earth traditions and shaped by encounters with alien civilizations, COL represents the core values and founding principles of the Galactic Coalition; Loyalty, Freedom, Diversity, and Democracy. Consequently, these core values all find themselves in the legionary Oath every Legionnaire is expected to take.
The Legion traces its principles back to historical precedents, notably the French Foreign Legion, where citizenship was earned through service. As humanity expanded beyond its home planet, the need for a diverse and adaptable military became paramount. The Legion emerged as a melting pot of species, united by duty and shared purpose.
Birth of the Solar Outworld Legion
In 2370, a mere fifty years after formalizing foreign relations with the Directorate and its clans, the Solar Outworld Legion came into existence. Matharam Kaldeem Aldet-Kazaan, the first Rokhandan to pledge loyalty to the Legion, eventually earned Solar Empire citizenship. The Legion expanded alongside humanity’s borders, actively recruiting from an ever-growing pool of alien species as first contact scenarios became increasingly common.
Disbandment and the Coalition
The initial incarnation of the Outworld Legion, like much of the Solar Empire’s former bureaucracy and established orders, disbanded alongside the empire itself. When the newly founded Coalition emerged, it initially saw no immediate need to reestablish the Outworld Legion. Instead, the Coalition focused on greater integration with its protectorates and explored alternative pathways for outworld aliens to attain citizenship.
As the Coalition’s peaceful expansion across the galaxy faced an inevitable end, the defection of the Federation triggered a conflict of unprecedented scale—the largest war known since the Styx AI crisis. Suddenly, the recruitment of loyalists from foreign nations became a critical necessity. To address this need, the Outworld Legion was reestablished, providing a path for these loyalists to serve despite their homelands now bearing the flag of an enemy nation.
Ongoing Recruitment Efforts
While a fragile ceasefire currently holds in the galaxy, recruitment efforts extend beyond the Coalition’s borders. Legion recruitment posts have been established on several major planets within the White Belt, seeking new recruits willing to stand alongside the Coalition. Additionally, with the dissolution of the White Belt Alliance (WBA) and the subsequent chaos engulfing White Belt space, many capable military contractors operating in the region have been absorbed through Varangian Proclamations. This rapid influx of skilled personnel has significantly bolstered the Legion’s numbers and capabilities.
The 5th Outworld Legion in the Mirimar System
Among the Legion’s divisions, the Coalition’s 5th Outworld Legion plays a crucial role in safeguarding the Coalition’s interests within the Mirimar system. Originally a division of the Summit Resource Group, it was formally integrated into the Legion following a Varangian Proclamation. Now, the corporation’s skilled operators serve the Coalition directly, navigating the complexities of interstellar politics and conflict.
Faction Relations
COL by and large operates to maintain the status quo established by the White Belt Accords, at least on the surface of things. They do not seek to overturn the governance of the system, but do hold a willful disregard for their authority, seeing their mission, provided to them by the Galactic Coalition as superior to the WBA's own. That mission often involves projecting Coalition interests, security precursor artifacts or countering Federal (and wider Jingashi Concordant) efforts. This often brings them into direct conflict with groups operating in the same spheres. With regards to corporations, COL is wholly supportive of most corporate entities, so long as they are Coalition aligned, as evidenced by their close relationship with the Shock Trauma Armed Rescue Service.
Faction | Relationship | Details |
---|---|---|
STAG - Executive | Positive | As a Coalition registered company, COL has an interest in supporting STAG operations. There have been no negative interactions between the Legionand STAG executives. |
STAG - RSS | Neutral | As the enforcers of the WBA's laws on planet, COL and RSS have a tenuous working relationship. Whilst there have been no negative interactions with the group, there is lots of possibilities for miscalculation when WBA laws, or RSS' ideals conflict with COL's mission goals. |
STAG - STARS | Positive | COL and STARS have a positive relationship, with COL holding a group care plan. The two groups have operated on several joint operations and allow cross employment. |
House Ajnoria | Hostile | As the Federations primary representative on planet, COL and House Ajnoria are openly hostile to each other. This hasn't broken out into conflict yet, however it is only a matter of time. |
OSIRIS Network | Negative | In the words of one staff officer. "An unfortunate network of criminals and opportunists lead by a demagogue." They claim ownership of parts of the city and could prove allies, or enemies of convenience. |
Triton Alliance | Negative | As much of a threat to the status quo, as the House, in the eyes of COL. The group of eclectic and misanthropic rebels and terrorists represent a threat to the longer term plans of COL, but in the short term, the group treats them as an annoying thorn, rather then a threat. |
Findsmen | Neutral | Whilst a threat to COL's precursor operations, the Findsmen have proven suprisingly enigmatic in their interactions with COL. There has been limited signs of co-operation between the two groups. |
Dandelion Wine | Negative | Relations with the Coalition deserters deteriorated sharply following attacks on Coalition flagged vessels. COL hasn't engaged them in open conflict, yet. Although there is obviously no love lost between the two. |
Equipment
The Legion deploys some of the most technologically capable equipment in the system, often obtained directly from the Coalition armories. The typical operator is equipped with cutting edge EISENWOLF Armored Combat Void Suits and M202 DSLMR Heavy Rifles paired with Folkvangr communications suites, giving them the firepower to rival a fireteam.
Armored Combat Void Suits
As an orbitally deployed force that has to account for hot drops from dropships, ship to ship boarding actions and ground deployments in a hostile frontier, members of the Coalition Outworld Legion have access to a variety of armored combat void suits (ACVS). These are sealed, protective suits with self-contained rebreathers that allow the operator to perform combat operations in hazardous environments, such as the vacuum of space. The beefier, more expensive and heavily armored cousin to the standard “ship suit” that has become ubiquitous throughout the territory of the space borne powers, combat void suits are often equipped with magnetic boots and gloves, tether lines and a whole host of automated sensors designed to inform the wearer about their environs.
More restrictive than standard ship suits, ACVS are substantially better armored and often contain improved system core firmware, enabling them to interface with a wider selection of additional military hardware and software packages. They represent a paradigm shift in armor concepts, using ultra-modern, flexible, fluid Armor plates and hardened smart armorweave fibers to provide primary layers of protection, rather than purely relying on interceptor vests or clamshell armored chest plates. Despite the baseline protection, this doesn’t preclude operators from augmenting their protection with further chest, arm and leg armor, on top of their ACVS. Further rigging can also be worked over the suit to allow personnel to carry more gear. The smart elements of the armorweave skin of these suits can often be reconfigured into various camouflage colors, but operators tend to keep the standard black and Prussian blue.
Whilst standard patterns of ACVS exist, operators have been granted a large amount of leeway in purchasing, developing, fabricating and customizing their own suit. This has led to the ACVS becoming as much a standard as a product.
EISENWOLF Modular ACVS System
The very latest offering from the Coalition’s Armada Armor Group (a joint venture between Raytheon Interstellar, Solar Standard and other assorted companies) the EISENWOLF Modular ACVS System (EMAS) represents the very latest in scaleable combat armor. Consisting of a universal bodysuit, armored helmet and various armored plates, the EISENWOLF is able to scale to meet all potential battlefield needs. From light stealth reconnaissance armor up to heavy, ship breacher kits. Mostly in service with Coalition frontline units, a series of contracts and deals redirecting entire consignments of EISENWOLF ACS towards Miranmir have made these suits available to their allied forces in system.
The base bodysuit is, itself, a dual layer armor glove. It’s inner skinsuit made from a moisture absorbent, synthetic fiber, interwoven with nanolace environmental control circuit linked to the armor’s computer, allowing wearers to calibrate the settings to their own needs. Protecting the skinsuit is a series of reinforced, flexible nano reinforced polymer scale plates over a reactive gel layer, rated to provide protection from common, low caliber, small arms, blunt force impacts and some energy weapons. Additional ports on the bodysuit allow for connecting to assorted, standardized neural interface ports, and AI host lattice.
Operators can then proceed to layer various soft, load bearing synthetic armor weave vests, belts and webbing providing both extra protection, and configurable space to add mission equipment. For the final layer of ‘standardized’ protection, wearers can clamp armored plates made from a proprietary OBR composite™ alloy over the undersuit and polymer armor. These more rigid plates, whilst restricting mobility, are rated to withstand direct hits from energy lances at the highest levels of protection.
Layered with a significant number of sensors, power assist joints, a motorized exoskeleton embedded into the initial armor layer, automated medical emergency system, environmental controls, life support, Folkvangr processing core’s and outlets to connect to additional gear, the EISENWOLF can draw a significant amount of power, with it’s quick change fusion cell capable of handling a standard operators combat load for 12 hours in atmosphere. Vacuum operations, external modules (such as EMUs, Command level Folkvangr suites, communications gear etc) or heavier applications of armor can significantly increase its power draw exponentially, requiring either a supply of fusion cells or an external fusion power generator attached as a pack.
Completing the suite of physical armor systems is the helmet that gives the EISENWOLF its unique look. Entirely formed from the OBR Composite™ that forms the suits primary armor plates, the helmet has an opaque, armored shell to provide total protection. Instead of a visor, the Klarsicht™ optical visor system utilizes cameras, suit sensors and datalink feeds to provide a composite image that gives operators near total situational awareness of their surroundings. Further to its primary purpose, the helmet includes onboard storage and processing modules to further augment operators' individual’s Folkvangr battlefield management suites.
Whilst COL allows its operators to choose their own model ACVS, should they wish to. The EISENWOLF has become the standard issue.
Frontier Duty Uniform
Introduced to address concerns of some operators regarding unnecessary wear and tear on ACVS outside of environmental hazard areas. This more comfortable clothing option, the Frontier Duty Uniform is based on the Coalitions Interstellar Duty Uniform. Fabricated from a robust yet light nanoweave fabric, the base uniform, either in black or multicam provides a very basic level of protection, thermal regulation and signature reduction. This is often augmented with standard issue “vanguard” armor systems, covering the torso, shoulders and shins.
Whilst the Frontier Duty Uniform isn’t rated for void operations, when coupled with appropriate boots, gloves and enclosed helmet, it can provide a time limited element of sealed protection from vacuum and other hazardous elements.
Folkvangr C3ISR Datalink
The Folkvangr C3ISR Datalink (FCD) is a whole suite of electronic sensors, software, hardware and firmware that is intended to link all Coalition forces across an entire system. Ran through a dedicated AI atleast of Overlord class, it uses a distributed network of sensors across every platform a force has access to, compositing them into a combined sensor picture which can be accessed via HUD overlays, command and control devices or through direct datanet feeds.
For the individual operator, Folkvangr is typically engaged via datanode devices, such as the standard issue watches issued when an individual is employed by COL. These devices are effectively cloud data devices that provide their owners access to comms, emergency beacons, fire support and database queries, whilst operating as a sensor platform, hovering up digital signals as an operator travels.
Most COL armor, either ACVS or FDU will have Folkvangr uploaded into its respective datalinks. Providing bespoke and composite HUD overlays, generic and mission specific.
Very rarely are “hard” endpoint’s of Folkvangr deployed outside of established command centers. Using a hub-to-spoke model, reminiscent of the Coalition's BIFROST network, end devices can be burned out by the central AI in the event of compromise.
Further details on Folkvangr’s capabilities remain highly classified due to its ongoing operation use by Coalition ground and space forces.
Valkyrie Intelligent Armor System (VIAS)
The Valkyrie Intelligent Armor System is the bridge between the EISENWOLF’s (or any other similar ACVS) considerable system potential and the onboard Folkvangr datalink. This function class AI functions as a limited personal assistant, allowing operators to control suit functions through tailored voice, eye or neural links (if installed). Parsing the considerable amount of data Folkvangr can receive, it will present a curated picture based on the operators preferences, command settings and mission objectives. Beyond Folkvangr, VIAS controls ACVS environmental controls, exterior sensors, suit cameras, medical systems and smart targeting suites as part of its standard package.
VIAS’s can be configured with a limited personality matrix that can mimic higher tier AIs, but operators should be under no illusions that whilst it can be configured to engage in conversation, this will come at processing cost. These are not quantum bluebox AIs. For example, there are stories of personality matrices in unupgraded suits overwriting medical protocols in order to keep a humor directive.
These function class AI’s are able to be significantly upgraded with additional processing cores if operators wish to use higher intensity functions, such as battlefield analysis. This comes with a consummate increase in power draw from suit batteries, as, whilst the base matrix chip has an onboard battery, this is an emergency measure to keep the “settings” and matrix stable if suit power fails.
Whilst the VIAS is standard issue, for the technology inclined, their ACVS crystal matrices can be uploaded with other, more advanced AI.
Small Arms
COL has no standardized weapon policy. Affording its operators an element of tactical flexibility to deploy whatever weapon system they deem tactically and operationally prudent. However it does maintain a sizable cache of "standardized" weapons, most drawn from the Coalition armories made by Terran Arms Inc. As a sidearm, it uses the M282 Pistol, the Coalition's standard issue sidearm. Modeled after the venerable 1911 but packed with 29th century technology and chambered in 10mm caseless. For a rifle, the M91 Pulse Rifle, chambered in 10x244mm caseless, this rifle has served both the Navy and Marines as their primary battlefield weapon for the last ten years. Highly modular, the M91 can be configured as a PDW, Carbine, Assault Rifle, Marksman Rifle or even configured to fire rocket assisted ammo. The M91 is also distinctive for the "slapping" motion possible when charging the weapon. Although most manuals suggest using the bolt release. Finally, in the small arms category, the Coalition Army’s standard battle rifle, the M202 Dual Stage Linear Motor Rifle or DSLMR. Desiring something with more stopping power then the M91, the M202 fires 8.75x52mm sabot's that are first chemically launched, then accelerated by electromagnetic coils delivering exceptionally high muzzle velocities capable of punching through most, if not all modern battlefield armor.
The Flotilla
In the dying months of 2823, in response to the growing importance of SRG Operations in the system the President authorized the deployment of SRG’s 1st Flotilla, Task Force Achillean, to be placed under the joint command of the Coalition’s in system flag officer. These ships were transferred to the 5th Legion after SRG was converted to the Outworld Legion. The ships of Task Force Achillean were joined by the GCS Francis Drake, and her escorts, the GCS Ari Helletar and Thomas Whitmore. These three ships formed alongside Task Force Achillean to become the foundation for the Miranmir Independent Squadron, the Coalition Navy’s primary unit of action in the system.
