Asking the corporations about the Coathal, however, and chances are you'll get a very different response. Overview

The Coathal are a reptilian race hailing from their home planet of Charum, overseen by the Vesreen Holdings. As a result of the harsh desert environment on Charum, the Coathal spent most of their lives living in the cool, subterranean caves beneath the scorching sun. Despite their imposing appearance and reputation as being difficult to read, the Coathal can claim to have the most representative democracy of any galactic power. This is no small feat to achieve, and while they may visually look to be hulking barbarians most races acknowledge that the Coathal are very intelligent and are often smarter than they let on. Coathal are also one of the few species to exert authority over the megacorporations, preventing them from meddling in Vesreenian affairs.

Appearance

The Coathal are known to come in a wide variety of colors and scale patterns; they tend towards large, muscular and bulky builds but depending on where they live and their diet, they can also be quite slim and lithe. Much like the other galactic races, Coathal are bipedal in nature but unlike other species, Coathal are cold-blooded. While this is not typically an issue for Coathal living on their homeworld of Charum, as it is quite easy to sunbathe in the scorching sun to warm one's self, those living in space or on other planets do not tend to have it so easy. Most Coathal living abroad have specially designed heat lamps in their homes to use when necessary, and you would be hard pressed to find a Coathal even visiting an snowy world, much less living on it.

While there are several subraces of Coathal, the most easily recognizable feature of the species is their thick scaled hide, thin slitted pupils and the potential presence of horns. Coathal, much like Poliesu, are sometimes mistaken for certain types of Vatborne, but their status as a cold-blooded species easily differentiates from splicers or designer babies using lizard DNA. This biological flaw is the type of disadvantage gene therapy is designed to avoid, after all.

Galactic Opinion

The Coathal are the second newest race to the galactic scene, second only to the Lumii. As a result, opinions about them are rather simple. While many individuals like to see the Vesreenian government standing up to megacorporations who have had their hands in plenty of galactic politics, there usually aren't very strong thoughts about Coathal either way. The Vesreenian government keeps to itself; it maintains trade with other empires but is mostly focused on internal politics and problems unique to the Coathal species and thus has not really stepped on any toes. Thus, Coathal are seen as reserved and sometimes even self-centered, though entities like the Federation appreciate the lack of interference from its neighbors.

Asking the corporations about the Coathal, however, and chances are you'll get a very different response. A lot of executives see the requirement to have government oversight as an overreach - however, the abundance of valuable ore and resources in Vesreenian space has coaxed a few to begrudgingly accept. Plenty of megacorporations have been using their weight to try and influence galactic politics against the Coathal as a sort of revenge. While they'd never admit to it, sometimes the Coathal do get the cold shoulder from business oriented empires like the Onk Conglomerate, and it doesn't take a scientist to figure out why.

Style Guide

Please see the Appearance Guide for non-race specific guidance and rules.

Coathal should use reptilian heads such as the DSD Dragon or ONA Snorka, or alternatively a non-reptilian head modded to be race accurate. Coathal vary in size and can be represented as larger anthro dragons, thin tall Snokras or the size of a normal avatar. They should have some kind of scaled body texture; any scale color is fine as they come in a variety of colors, however please avoid anything eye destroying or obscene like neon pinks or pastels.
