Overview

Law Enforcement on Onia

Following the disbanding of the Dusklight Sheriff's Department (DLSD) in 2820, the White Belt Administration (WBA) took direct control of policing the Mirinmar system. This has lead to four distinct organisations operating within the policing and security role in and around Dusklight.

System Marshals - The Mirinmar System Marshal Service or more colloquially "the Marshals". The most direct form of law enforcement the WBA can deploy. These men and women are hired from all walks of life to serve as single points of justice on far flung worlds that don't justify the cost of a full police force. Normally working as lone operators, or in pairs they carry the powers of judge, jury and executioner, with some of the best equipment that money can buy. Their loyalty to the "cause" can vary. Some Marshal's exist as pure paragons of law & order... whilst others, represent the shady, corrupt corporate underbelly the WBA is known for.

Dusklight Rangers - The only element of the DLSD to survive the WBA's purge. These local volunteers were formed of settled veterans, frontiersmen and well trained homesteaders. Inheriting what little airships the old Sheriffs owned they're now responsible for protecting the homesteads and small settlements that exist in the periphery of Dusklight, the mag rail and the orbital tether. The only truly "local" force on planet, they answer to the Governor rather then an offworld WBA office, on rare-occasion they can be called upon by the WBA to provide support where a friendly face is beneficial.

Sector Security Forces - A paramilitary force responsible for counter piracy, customs enforcement and civil defence. The SSF is technically a sub-unit of the WBA's "White Fleet" equipped with small patrol craft, corvette's and the odd frigate. Their pay and equipment doesn't hold a candle to other military forces, but it's enough to put bread on the table and hold off the odd pirate raid here and there. More deterrent then anything, the SSF holds jurisdiction over everything from the system jumppoints to the star port exits. Ontop of this, on worlds like Onia, they work alongside the Dusklight Rangers to maintain the protective thumper network and respond alongside them to any major incursions.

Belt Security Administration - The Belt Security Administration is the pervasive secret police and internal intelligence service of the WBA. Fully empowered to do whatever is necessary to protect the WBA's interests... or what they interpret those interests to be. BSA Agents whilst exceptionally few in number have been seen more and more as the cold war starts to be heating up. Overt, or covert, there is no line they wont cross to complete their mission.
