0 Rule Zero

Practice common sense while consulting these rules. The general idea counts, not the exact wording. The rules are guidelines for the sim and should be interpreted to suit the situation at hand, not manipulated to suit your needs. Attempting to Rules-Lawyer a member of staff is never a good idea.

New Frontiers Management retains the right to issue ejections/bans/administrative actions to players that they consider to be a consistent net negative to the community and sim, without the need for any specific Rule to be broke

1 Courtesy

We’re here to provide a fun RP environment for all our players, but that’s only possible if our sim, team and other players are treated fairly and with respect and courtesy. All acts within the sim or in relation to the sim should be with the fun and continuity of the community in mind. That means even if something isn't detailed in the sim or dice rules, abusing, loop-holing and being discourteous on the regular is a violation of this agreement, one you agree to by playing in the sim.

2 Abusing the System

The game systems in the sim, the HUD, and the character systems are not to be abused or exploited in any way; they are to be used as they were intended. If you find any bugs please contact an administrator as abusing these can lead to a ban. Trading between your own characters or accounts is disallowed. OOC scamming and abusing new players for personal gain is also disallowed. Faking dice rolls or lying about equipment is not permitted.

3 Metagaming and Powergaming

Metagaming, using information obtained OOC in IC situations is disallowed. Powergaming, making your character as overpowered and minmaxed as possible is highly discouraged. Creating interesting and effective builds is part of the fun, however abusing stats and creating builds that are designed to not even give your opponent a chance runs against a fun gaming environment. The combat system is there to be played, not circumvented using items and abilities.

4 Personal Conduct and Griefing

Sim crashers, graphics crashers, sim wide attacks, or anything that obstructs the use of the sim will result in a permanent ban. This includes conduct on other sims: If you are known for this behavior, you may not be allowed in the sim as a precautionary measure. Spamming obnoxious gestures, aggressive racism, homophobia, abuse, offensive character names, promoting politics that support any of these, or other antisocial behavior will result in warnings and bans for repeated offenders based on the severity of each case.

5 In character RP

At New Frontiers a fluent level of English is required, this is an English language only sim, use of translators is not allowed. When you are IC you must have your titler on and active. You must be IC to use sim systems such as vendors, containers, trading, looting, mining, ect. When you are outside the hub or personal rental, please use either your HUD with visible hovertext or an OOC tag.

6 Limits and Consent

While every individual is allowed to apply their own limits to RP there are some exceptions that cannot be voided. Consequences that make sense such as getting arrested after performing assault or refusing to RP with police officers despite having a bounty. Newer players may be allowed to avoid combat with more experienced players however this is up to the attacking party, but this is a short period. Dying is possible in New Frontiers, please see the rule book for further information, however know that you must consent to being killed unless there are extraordinary circumstances or through staff intervention. You cannot prevent RP between 2 consenting parties that you are not yourself involved in.

7 Movement Enhancement

Use of movement enhancers is limited to having an appropriate corresponding item. Example: You cannot use a jetpack on your avatar unless you have a jetpack equipped. Movement enhancers should also be used sparingly, using them exclusively to traverse the sim is disallowed. Avatar flying is disallowed. Sit hacking is only allowed in situations where you are returning to the sim and need to get back to somewhere your character would still be IC.

8 Second Life Terms of Service

Anything that violates the SL TOS is grounds for a ban. Child avatars are not allowed. Anything that is made to look childlike falls under this rule. Ageplay and bestiality are also not allowed in the sim. If it would require explaining to a Linden, it is not allowed.

9 Appearance

Please see the appearance guide on appropriate character designs. See Appearance Guide.

10 Prim Usage

Although rez is enabled in the sim, it must be used appropriately, and you must always pick up after you are finished. Do not wait for the auto-return to clean up behind you. This is a courtesy rather than a right, and it can be taken away at any time if it is abused. Do not rez anything that will degrade sim performance or has heavy land impact. Vehicles are allowed to be rezzed given you have the item to do so, but please pick them up when you are done; do not use rezzed objects to farm items or avoid RP.

11 Adult Content

New Frontiers is an adult rated sim, however the sim is here for serious RP and not for individuals looking only for adult content. Sexual content is allowed however the colony has laws against public nudity and sexual behavior. Expect appropriate responses to your actions. All interactions must be consensual OOC, pressing any unwanted advances is harassment and will not be tolerated. For avatar limits please see the avatar design document.

12 Player Kills

New Frontiers, much like most other RP sims has mechanics for how to handle when your character is taken to the point of death. This normally only happens in extreme circumstances and as a result of protracted conflict. We wish to encourage conflict, so the bar for both of these actions are intended to be exceptionally high and only exist to serve the very small minority of cases where a player kill can serve the good benefit of story and roleplay. These rules are made to solely govern player kills in a PVP encounter. In all other cases, player death is consent based only.

There are two kinds of PVP player kills, soft, where the character can be revived through medical RP or hard, where the players character is deactivated for a significant period of time. The process for these is defined as such:

12a) Soft Player Kill

Anyone can perform these as they are an agreement between two players. There should be a considerable and weighty reason for one to wish to execute another player character. All the consequences from this event (eg, memory loss) are agreed between the two parties involved.

Revival should be handled via an appropriate hospital RP, either through an established group medical function, the colony hospital or a Storyteller led RP.

The only time an admin should get involved if there is disagreement between the two parties. At which point judgement is rendered on the cases presented, and the PK only agreed if there is overwhelming evidence to support the IC interaction.

12b) Hard Player Kill

If a player or group thinks that an individuals actions have been so egregious that an individual must be permanently removed, they may follow the following procedure to obtain an enforced, hard player kill.

There are two criteria that must be met before such a request can be made.

  • The individual in question MUST have been clearly warned IC and OOC that their actions could lead to death. No exceptions.
  • There must be a series of events that lead up to the request. This is not a one time thing unless the act is EXCEPTIONALLY egregious. Current precedent for this is months of violent actions.

If the above is met the person/group requesting the PK must

  1. Currently hold the person in custody
  2. Have the means to hold them IC for an extended period of time

If that is met, they must make the initial request to an admin with a docket both IC and OOC explaining the reasons WHY the PK is being requested. This receiving admin must confirm with at least 1 other admin, preferably 2. If there is agreement between the admins, the individual who is the target of the PK request is allowed to be indefinitely detained for 24 hours.

The receiving admin will then post the docket received to this channel and @ the appropriate roles. Discussion will then take place and a vote held over that 24 hour detention period.

The vote only passes if a majority of staff approve the action. For the purposes of this vote quorum is considered 60% of the staff team.

If the vote fails for any reason, either through lack of votes or being voted down. The PK is denied and the player must be released.

If the vote passes, the player and requester must be informed and as of the targets execution, a PK will be enforced by an admin.

Other things of note

If you see something, say something. The team is not omnipresent, they cant be expected to know everything at all times. If you don't report something, nothing can be done about it. Don't let problems build up, report them when they arise.
If you need to contact an admin or moderator you can check discord to see if any are online, or check in-world to see if any are on sim.
