Overview

Established shortly after Dusklight Colony's official founding in 2768, the Sheriff's Office is intended to provide safety and security to the colony and surrounding homesteads. The Sheriff's Office is regulated by the local Outer Rim Authority, and a sheriff is appointed or retained every few years based on the Authority's whim. While mainly tasked with patrolling the colony and responding to distress calls within the walls, deputies are also regularly dispatched to local, nearby homesteads to deal with hostile fauna or provide support to farmers and homesteaders. As a secondary concern, deputies are also tasked with engaging and destroying hostile fauna that may threaten the colony itself. If sighting native xenofauna in the vicinity of the colony, colonists are directed to phone deputies for assistance in removing pests.

The Sheriff's Department is currently headed by Sheriff Ana J. Ka'rimah.

Roles

Sheriff

The Sheriff is completely responsible for the entire department. They have final oversight of all issues related to department matters, such as policing, personnel, equipment acquisitions and requisitions, and more. They are the highest ranking officer in the department. This position is appointed directly by the White Belt Administration’s local government.

Chief Deputy Sheriff

The Chief Deputy Sheriff is the second in command of the department and their authority is only superseded by the Sheriff. They are the primary liaison between the Sheriff and other members of the Command group, ensuring that staff are coordinated and supervised during day-to-day operations.

Division Chief

The Division Chief is appointed by the Sheriff to provide oversight and management of a division; there are only three, as there are three non-Command divisions of the department. They are responsible for the staffing of their division (including promotion of officers), for the execution of their divisions’ assigned tasks and the discipline of their staff. They are expected to investigate low-level policy violations by their staff.

Division Executive Officer

The Executive Officer is the Division Chief’s right hand. They are expected to coordinate logistics, operations, investigations, informational control and discipline along with the Division Chief to ensure a smooth, working division. They are second-in-command of their respective divisions and are expected to be capable of taking over their department in the absence of unavailability of the Division Chief.

Division NCO

The Division NCO is appointed to assist their respective Command members with the operation of their division. They are mostly responsible for the application and monitoring of punishments, including alternative duty assignments. Their main role is to serve as a liaison between the enlisted and the Command members of their division to ensure their officers are kept up to date and free to focus on administrative oversight of their division.
