The rules list below include both the on sim and game relevant rules as well as the behavior expectations and rules for our New Frontiers discord. All rules are enforced in all play spaces of New Frontiers.
=='''0'''  Rule Zero==

==Sim Specific Rules==

===Rule 0 - Don’t be a dick===
Practice common sense while consulting these rules. The general idea counts, not the exact wording. The rules are guidelines for the sim and should be interpreted to suit the situation at hand, not manipulated to suit your needs. Attempting to Rules-Lawyer a member of staff is never a good idea.

===Rule 1 - Courtesy/Golden Rule===
We’re here to provide a fun RP environment for all our players, but that’s only possible if our sim, team and other players are treated fairly and with respect and courtesy. All acts within the sim or in relation to the sim should be with the fun and continuity of the community in mind.
We are all here to have a fun time. Treat other players the way you wish to be treated. Players are expected to be mature enough to realize when they should be toning behaviors back to avoid ruining the enjoyment of others. Conflicts will happen, but try not to make it too personal.
That means even if something isn't detailed in the sim or dice rules, abusing, loop-holing and being discourteous on the regular is a violation of this agreement, one you agree to by playing in the sim.
If you have an issue with a situation or player, open a ticket using ticket system in our discord server.
===Rule 2 -  Abusing the System===
The game systems in the sim, the HUD, and the character systems are not to be abused or exploited in any way; they are to be used as they were intended. If you find any bugs please contact an administrator as abusing these can lead to a ban. Examples of abuse include:
- Trading between your own characters or accounts, including laundering through 3rd parties.
- OOC scamming and abusing new players.
- Faking dice rolls or lying about equipment.
- Changing skills in the HUD whilst in an IC scene to gain an advantage.
===Rule 3 - Limits and Consent===
Every individual is allowed to apply their own limits to RP, however these should be in good faith. If you reach a situation where someone's limits may be breached, communication is paramount, you should negotiate OOCly to come to a conclusion that both parties agree to. If a situation is something that you (or they) do not wish to RP, you can always fade to black.
Using consent in bad faith as an OOC shield to protect your character will result in administrative action.
Whilst In character actions have in character consequences. If you feel you are being unfairly targeted, or are being targeted for actions that have been taken out of character. Please create a ticket in the create-a-help-ticket channel. It should be stressed you cannot prevent RP between 2 consenting parties that you are not yourself involved in. Remember Rule 1, we are all here to have fun. If your actions, whilst technically within stated rules negatively affect the community, the administration team reserves the right to act.

New Frontiers Management retains the right to issue ejections/bans/administrative actions to players that they consider to be a consistent net negative to the community and sim, without the need for any specific Rule to be broke
Consent is needed in order to permanently affect another player either through death, rape, mutilation or in any way that it would permanently affect a character’s physical or mental stability. If something has led up to where consent is needed for an action that is inevitable please contact a member of administration.

====Consent in Combat - Updated Rules====

You must give a minimum of one round of post into a scene before combat starts, including in a surprise attack/ambush. The only exclusions to this rule are for reinforcements entering combat who may post into combat as they arrive at the appropriate time; or you have discussed and both agreed to jumping straight into combat via OOC communication.

===Rule 4 - Roleplay Standards===
The game systems in the sim, the HUD, and the character systems are not to be abused or exploited in any way; they are to be used as they were intended. If you find any bugs please contact an administrator as abusing these can lead to a ban. Trading between your own characters or accounts is disallowed. OOC scamming and abusing new players for personal gain is also disallowed. Faking dice rolls or lying about equipment is not permitted.
The following behaviors are prohibited in New Frontiers:

=='''3'''  Metagaming and Powergaming==
- Metagaming, using information obtained OOC in IC situations, this includes passing information between your characters off-screen without administrative approval. To obtain information from an ongoing scene, you must post into it and be an active participant.
Metagaming, using information obtained OOC in IC situations is disallowed. Powergaming, making your character as overpowered and minmaxed as possible is highly discouraged. Creating interesting and effective builds is part of the fun, however abusing stats and creating builds that are designed to not even give your opponent a chance runs against a fun gaming environment. The combat system is there to be played, not circumvented using items and abilities.

=='''4''' Personal Conduct and Griefing==
- Powergaming, Playing all powerful, or forcing actions upon others. Every action on people or things outside of your own character is considered an attempt. If it affects or reaches another player. It is an attempt.
Sim crashers, graphics crashers, sim wide attacks, or anything that obstructs the use of the sim will result in a permanent ban. This includes conduct on other sims: If you are known for this behavior, you may not be allowed in the sim as a precautionary measure. Spamming obnoxious gestures, aggressive racism, homophobia, abuse, offensive character names, promoting politics that support any of these, or other antisocial behavior will result in warnings and bans for repeated offenders based on the severity of each case.

=='''5'''  In character RP==
- Abusing player limits, Players cannot claim 'against limits' in some instances where the player has instigated the consequences. For example, a player cannot steal or hurt someone then once caught and taken to the police, refuse their jail time claiming its against their limits to be imprisoned. If a player has instigated a consequence, they must play out the consequence, either by Fade to Black or actually RPing it out.
At New Frontiers a fluent level of English is required, this is an English language only sim, use of translators is not allowed. When you are IC you must have your titler on and active. You must be IC to use sim systems such as vendors, containers, trading, looting, mining, ect. When you are outside the hub or personal rental, please use either your HUD with visible hovertext or an OOC tag.

=='''6''' Limits and Consent==
===Rule 5 - Personal Conduct and Griefing===
While every individual is allowed to apply their own limits to RP there are some exceptions that cannot be voided. Consequences that make sense such as getting arrested after performing assault or refusing to RP with police officers despite having a bounty. Newer players may be allowed to avoid combat with more experienced players however this is up to the attacking party, but this is a short period. Dying is possible in New Frontiers, please see the rule book for further information, however know that you must consent to being killed unless there are extraordinary circumstances or through staff intervention. You cannot prevent RP between 2 consenting parties that you are not yourself involved in.
Sim crashers, graphics crashers, sim wide attacks, or anything that obstructs the use of the sim will result in a permanent ban. Spamming obnoxious gestures, aggressive racism, homophobia, abuse, offensive character names, promoting politics that support any of these, or other antisocial behavior as decided by administration will result in warnings and bans for repeated offenders based on the severity of each case.

=='''7''' Movement Enhancement==
===Rule 6 - Language and Identification===
Use of movement enhancers is limited to having an appropriate corresponding item. Example: You cannot use a jetpack on your avatar unless you have a jetpack equipped. Movement enhancers should also be used sparingly, using them exclusively to traverse the sim is disallowed. Avatar flying is disallowed. Sit hacking is only allowed in situations where you are returning to the sim and need to get back to somewhere your character would still be IC.

Please see the appearance guide on appropriate character designs. See [[Appearance Guide]].

=='''10''' Prim Usage==
The Appearance Guide has sim rules regarding appearance, size, parody, ferals and quads, political imagery, and so on. Everything covered in the Appearance Guide is subject to enforcement just like the rules listed here at the administrations discretion. Please make sure you are abiding by our appearance guide while on sim.
Although rez is enabled in the sim, it must be used appropriately, and you must always pick up after you are finished. Do not wait for the auto-return to clean up behind you. This is a courtesy rather than a right, and it can be taken away at any time if it is abused. Do not rez anything that will degrade sim performance or has heavy land impact. Vehicles are allowed to be rezzed given you have the item to do so, but please pick them up when you are done; do not use rezzed objects to farm items or avoid RP.

===Rule 9 -  Prim Usage===
Although rez is enabled in the sim, it must be used appropriately, and you must always pick up after you are finished. Do not wait for the auto-return to clean up behind you. The ability to rez is a privilege rather than a right, and it can be taken away at any time if it is abused.

Do not rez anything that will degrade sim performance or has heavy land impact without administrative approval.

Vehicles are allowed to be rezzed but will have no effect on combat. If a combat scene starts, the vehicle must be disembarked. Please pick them up when you are done; do not use rezzed objects to farm items or avoid RP.

Renters, please review the Rental Agreement for specific rules regarding your rental prims.

===Rule 10 -  Adult Content===
New Frontiers is an adult rated sim, sexual content is allowed however the colony has laws against public nudity and sexual behavior. Expect appropriate responses to your actions. All interactions must be consensual OOC, pressing any unwanted advances is harassment and will not be tolerated.

===Rule 11 - Second Life Terms of Service===
Anything that violates the SL TOS on or off sim, especially while wearing sim tags, is grounds for a ban. Child avatars are not allowed. Anything that is made to look childlike falls under this rule. If it would require explaining to a Linden, it is not allowed.

===Rule 12 -  Player death===
Player death (and the consequences/permanence of this) is purely consensual. Sim administration reserves the right to waive this rule in extreme circumstances.

===Rule 13 -  Changes and Precedents===
Administration reserves the right to change these rules without notice to ensure the safety of the sim and player base. Changes will be announced via a changelog whenever practicable.

==Discord Specific Rules==

===Discord Rule 1: Civility: Treat each other with respect and kindness.===

Always be civil (e.g. no personal attacks, practice empathy and patience in all discussions, and learn when to leave a discussion).

Please note that tone can be difficult to read in text format, and everyone has a different perspective and frame of reference. Be aware that sarcasm, dark humor, and in-jokes may not be interpreted as you intended.

If the discussion has become circular (just rehashing/discussing the same points over and over), people are talking past each other (consistently not understanding points of view and just getting “louder”), and/or moving to personal insults or unpleasant generalizations, it’s time to pause or stop the conversation.

=='''11'''  Adult Content==
Additionally, asking questions in bad faith, asking questions to provoke a negative reaction or drama, and/or repeatedly asking questions in a “debate me” manner (sealioning) under the guise of civility or “just asking” is harassment. Don’t chase a conversation that someone doesn’t want to have.
New Frontiers is an adult rated sim, however the sim is here for serious RP and not for individuals looking only for adult content. Sexual content is allowed however the colony has laws against public nudity and sexual behavior. Expect appropriate responses to your actions. All interactions must be consensual OOC, pressing any unwanted advances is harassment and will not be tolerated. For avatar limits please see the avatar design document.

=='''12'''  Player Kills==
===Discord Rule 2: Don’t be a dick. Racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, pejorative language or any other hatred will not be tolerated.===
New Frontiers, much like most other RP sims has mechanics for how to handle when your character is taken to the point of death. This normally only happens in extreme circumstances and as a result of protracted conflict. We wish to encourage conflict, so the bar for both of these actions are intended to be exceptionally high and only exist to serve the very small minority of cases where a player kill can serve the good benefit of story and roleplay. These rules are made to solely govern player kills in a PVP encounter. In all other cases, player death is consent based only.

There are two kinds of PVP player kills, soft, where the character can be revived through medical RP or hard, where the players character is deactivated for a significant period of time. The process for these is defined as such:
Don’t make discord unusable or unpleasant to use. This includes spamming, abusing role pings, and everything else that’d make people not want to be here. Administration has final say on the matter.
----
===12a) Soft Player Kill===

Anyone can perform these as they are an agreement between two players. There should be a considerable and weighty reason for one to wish to execute another player character. All the consequences from this event (eg, memory loss) are agreed between the two parties involved.
===Discord Rule 3: Each channel in this Discord has a particular function. Keep NSFW to the NSFW Channels===

Revival should be handled via an appropriate hospital RP, either through an established group medical function, the colony hospital or a Storyteller led RP.
Check the  pinned messages  for the description or use of each channel. If your post is not in a suitable channel, the Moderators will kindly ask you to move your discussion to the ideal location.

The only time an admin should get involved if there is disagreement between the two parties. At which point judgement is rendered on the cases presented, and the PK only agreed if there is overwhelming evidence to support the IC interaction.
All NSFW content should be kept in the NSFW channels. Read the nsfw-request channel to get your tag.
----
===12b) Hard Player Kill===

If a player or group thinks that an individuals actions have been so egregious that an individual must be permanently removed, they may follow the following procedure to obtain an enforced, hard player kill.
===Discord Rule 4: No politics, religion, or other controversial subjects.===

There are two criteria that must be met before such a request can be made.
This includes and is not limited to speculation on real-world topics.This isn't a place for political debate, no one wants to read your 3 page libertarian manifesto on the discord for a second life space rp sim. This includes memes, current political events, online videos although some leeway may be given if the discussion is non-toxic.

* The individual in question MUST have been clearly warned IC and OOC that their actions could lead to death. No exceptions.
===Discord Rule 5: Use your SL Name===
* There must be a series of events that lead up to the request. This is not a one time thing unless the act is EXCEPTIONALLY egregious. Current precedent for this is months of violent actions.

If the above is met the person/group requesting the PK must
You must use your SL username as part of your discord nickname. This is your username, not your display name. This allows Administration to very quickly help you with issues by being able to identify your characters in the hud system. If you do not use your SL USERNAME we have a hard time finding you.
# Currently hold the person in custody
# Have the means to hold them IC for an extended period of time

If that is met, they must make the initial request to an admin with a docket both IC and OOC explaining the reasons WHY the PK is being requested. This receiving admin must confirm with at least 1 other admin, preferably 2. If there is agreement between the admins, the individual who is the target of the PK request is allowed to be indefinitely detained for 24 hours.
===Discord Rule 6: If you see or suspect any rule-breaking and require immediate assistance use @Help in discord. If the problem is not immediate and requires review, use the ticket system #create-a-help-ticket===

The receiving admin will then post the docket received to this channel and @ the appropriate roles. Discussion will then take place and a vote held over that 24 hour detention period.
If you have questions or need help, please use help-general

The vote only passes if a majority of staff approve the action. For the purposes of this vote quorum is considered 60% of the staff team.
If you wish to speak to an online member of Administration/Moderation staff privately, please ping @Help and staff will reach out to you.

If the vote fails for any reason, either through lack of votes or being voted down. The PK is denied and the player must be released.
Moderation actions will not be open for debate in public forum. Moderation actions are between the Admin team and the individual involved, and will not be discussed with others. In rare and extreme cases, an explanation will be posted by administration.

If the vote passes, the player and requester must be informed and as of the targets execution, a PK will be enforced by an admin.
In the event moderation action is taken against you, you will receive notice from the discord bot. If you have questions or concerns regarding the bot message, you make make a ticket to discuss with staff.

General questions regarding the rules, clarifications, and/or constructive ideas are welcome in help-general

==Other things of note==
If you see something, say something. The team is not omnipresent, they cant be expected to know everything at all times. If you don't report something,  nothing can be done about it. Don't let problems build up, report them when they arise.
If you need to contact an admin or moderator you can check discord to see if any are online, or check in-world to see if any are on sim.

Overview

The rules list below include both the on sim and game relevant rules as well as the behavior expectations and rules for our New Frontiers discord. All rules are enforced in all play spaces of New Frontiers.

Sim Specific Rules

Rule 0 - Don’t be a dick

Practice common sense while consulting these rules. The general idea counts, not the exact wording. The rules are guidelines for the sim and should be interpreted to suit the situation at hand, not manipulated to suit your needs. Attempting to Rules-Lawyer a member of staff is never a good idea. New Frontiers Management retains the right to issue ejections/bans/administrative actions to players that they consider to be a consistent net negative to the community and sim, without the need for any specific Rule to be broke

Rule 1 - Courtesy/Golden Rule

Rule 2 - Abusing the System

The game systems in the sim, the HUD, and the character systems are not to be abused or exploited in any way; they are to be used as they were intended. If you find any bugs please contact an administrator as abusing these can lead to a ban. Examples of abuse include:

- Trading between your own characters or accounts, including laundering through 3rd parties.

- OOC scamming and abusing new players.

- Faking dice rolls or lying about equipment.

- Changing skills in the HUD whilst in an IC scene to gain an advantage.

Rule 3 - Limits and Consent

Consent is needed in order to permanently affect another player either through death, rape, mutilation or in any way that it would permanently affect a character’s physical or mental stability. If something has led up to where consent is needed for an action that is inevitable please contact a member of administration.

Consent in Combat - Updated Rules
